This book was long awaited, and it didn’t disappoint. Harry is now the winter knight and he’s got to handle a task that Mab has thrown at him. We meet some old characters in this book as well as some new ones. It’s a good mix I must say. It still left a lot of questions, but hopefully that’ll be answered in the next book. We don’t see much of Molly until the end, but she makes an appearance as the new winter lady. We experience Nicodemus and his daughter again, as well as Anna Valmonte from the Church Mice days in Blood Rites.
All in all, this was in the better end of the Dresden books and leaves the reader waiting for the next book!

This wasn’t the best Jim Butcher book, but it did introduce some interesting characters and some interesting facts. The end was a bit nail biting too which made up for the lack luster book content. I love books that Thomas makes an appearance, he’s so swoon worthy… which is what Jim Butcher was going for me thinks. If you are a fan of porn movies then you might enjoy this book since the majority takes place on a porn movie set. 🙂
Harry ends up wita new friend in this book and Thomas reveals an earth shattering secret. You end up cheering for Inari Raith and hating Tricia Scrump: AKA Trixie Vixen. You’ll never guess who Arturo Genosa’s new wife is going to be and who is really behind the entropy curses.
This is the last reread of the Dresden Files I did before the new book came out.

This is book 5 in the Dresden Files series, and perhaps one of my favorite books. So much happens in this book that I can’t even begin to describe it without giving something away. I think it’s awesome that the Shroud of Turin is involved, that piece of history has always fascinated me! If you have made this far into the Dresden Files series, you probably know that James Marsters narration has gotten 100% better. I love, love this book.

Jade Calhoun is not only an empath but now she’s a witch too. This is book 2 in the series that start with
Haunted on Bourbon Street.
this is where I gave up on the series, it got way to weird, even for me. That’s saying something when it gets too weird for me. haha
I enjoyed the romance aspect of the book, but the weirdness won out and totally turned me off the book and the series.

This is one of the several times I’ve read the books in the Dresden Files series. 🙂
While this isn’t my favorite Dresden book, it’s still a good one. In my opinion, they get better and better as the series continues.
Harry is in a bad way in the beginning of this book, and the only thing to turn him around is a case. He’s convinced to take a case from a very beautiful woman (you’ll find out who she is later).
This book teaches Harry the value of friendship and that it comes in all forms ( werewolves, dew drop faries and others).

Haunted on Bourbon Street by Deanna Chase
Finished: April 22
This book started out cheesy and stayed that way through the whole book. If you are into paranormal romance, then perhaps this series is for you.
I read the first 2 books in this series, but dropped it after that.
This series has witches, ghosts and magic to go along with romance and friendship. I thought the ghost angle was cool when I first read it, but looking back, it really was kind of cheesy.
On our new scale I give this book a 2.

Not something I’m dieing to read again, or just jumping up to recommend to my friends.

The Executive Guide to High-impact Talent Management: Powerful Tools for Leveraging a Changing Workforce by David DeLong and Steve Trautman
You probably guessed it, but this was a required reading for a class so I thought it should make the booklist! 🙂
I totally can’t rate this book on my normal scale, because I’m sure to someone who wants to learn more about this topic it’s a great book, but I found it extremely boring. I guess boring is to be expected from required class reading.
It did give me the need to play with the Kindle app on my phone since I could only find this book in Kindle format and print.
Guess that’s all for this one.

Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, Book 3) by Jim Butcher
Finished: April 5
This is book 3 in the Dresden Files series. I like to play a game with the books in the Dresden Files series, and try to guess what the subject matter of the book will be by the title. This one was a bit difficult, and I got it wrong on my first guess.
Something is stirring up the ghosts in town, and now that something is targeting Harry’s friends. Harry has his handful in this book by finding what is stirring up the angry ghosts, to dealing with a vengeful noble of the vampire red court.
On our scale, I give this book a 3. Not my favorite book in the series, but it’s a building block for books to come. I also have to say that you see marginal improvements in James Marster’s narration in this book as well.
That’s all for now.

Amanda Ellen

The Silent Wife by A. S. A. Harrison
Finished: March 28
This book was meh. I give it a 3. It might have gotten a higher rating if the ending didn’t suck so badly.
***
This book’s publisher summary compares it to “Gone Girl”, and I don’t see it near the same or even in the same ballpark. It seems like the author had those intentions when setting out to write this book, but still managed to come up just short.
If you like books that keep you guessing and leave you confused, then give this book a read. I know it won’t make my “Must re-read” list.
TaTa,
Amanda

Goliath by Scott Westerfeld
Finished: March 16
This is book 3 in the trilogy I told you about in
this post.
You can find book 2 here
“Mr. Sharp!” This is the phrase I was saying for weeks after finishing this book. I want one of those furry little creatures, they sound very cute! I liked this series, while it is a young adult series, it was still very captivating to an older person.
On our new scale, I give this book a 4 and the overall series a 5. I love the alternative historical aspect of this story, perhaps that was what drew me in.
Thanks to RO she’s full of good book suggestions.

Amanda Ellen
